Research advances and hotspot of methane management and control technology based on CiteSpace analysis

  • To keep track of the worldwide research trends of methane management and control technology, 24 358 and 50 020 articles from 2011 to 2021 were selected from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Web of Science databases, respectively. Through bibliometric analysis, the research progress of methane management and control technology was summarized and analyzed from the aspects of the quantity of published papers, research teams and research hotspots. The results show that the number of articles on methane control technology research has increased by 2.2 times. The number of published papers in China and the United States significantly exceeds other countries and regions, occupying the first-tier in the related field. The research on methane management and control technology is mainly focused on the fields of coal, oil and gas, agriculture, waste disposal and other industries. The keywords such as cross-layer borehole, pressure relief and antireflection, anaerobic fermentation and methanogens appear in a higher frequency. Prospectively, methane production from biofuels, interspecies electron transfer, and methane reforming would become the frontier issues in the future. In general, there are diversified trends in the research interest of various countries. This article reveals the knowledge basis, hotspots and frontier trends of methane management and control research, providing theoretical and practical reference for carrying out research on methane management and control technology and supporting the management of carbon emission reduction.
