Experimental study on the strength of remolded loess on filled sites under different compaction energies

  • In order to study the influence of different compaction energies and moisture contents on the shear strength of the remolded loess(embankment fill), taking the Q4 loess of Yan'an as the research object, the direct shear tests were carried out under conditions of the compaction energy is 592.2 kJ/m3, 1 342.4 kJ/m3, 1 820.2 kJ/m3 and 2 684.9 kJ/m3 respectively. The results show that the dry density of the remolded loess increases with the increase of compaction energy, while the optimal moisture content decreases with the increase of compaction energy; shear strengths of the remolded loess under different compaction energies are proportional to the vertical pressure; the cohesive strength of remolded loess under various compaction energy conditions shows a trend of increasing first and then decreasing on both sides of the optimal water content, the internal friction angle increases with the increase of compaction energy. The results can provide reference for the ground treatment of high filled coal mine sites in mountainous area.
